The Buck Bomb Review

Using scents while hunting can be a great way to bring a nice buck in range when used correctly.  This year I tried The Buck Bomb Doe In Estrous & had some good luck with it.

While walking to my stand I sprayed the can intermittently onto the ground to use as cover scent and as a scent trail. I wasn't in my stand 10 minutes when a nice young 8 point came out and followed my trail to my stand.  I love that the can sprays upside down too, making it easy to create scent trails or to use for mock scrapes.

The Buck Bomb is very versatile and gives you many options on how to use it. Use it as a scent trail, like I did. Use it as a cover scent by spraying it intermittently from your stand if the wind changes directions. You can also lock the spray valve down to allow the entire can to spray. The scent can travel as far as 1/4 mile or more downwind!

There are several Buck Bomb scents to use: Doe In Estrous, Doe P, Dominant Buck, Young Buck, Vanilla Curiosity, Acorn Rage and Sugar Beet Smash!

I highly recommend trying these out if you haven't yet! They are extremely easy to use, very versatile and most importantly, effective!

ThermaCELL Heated Insoles Review

When the temperature starts to drop during mid to late hunting season, keeping my feet warm is critical in order for me to sit in my tree stand for long periods of time. I have tried many different boots, wearing multiple socks and Toasty Toes in my boots, but none of them have worked for me when it starts to get in the 20's and 30's. If this is also the case for you, then I highly recommend trying the ThermaCELL Heated Insoles!

The temperature this morning was 27 degrees with a windchill in the teens. Before I went hunting I replaced my normal boot insoles with the ThermaCELL insoles. They are remote controlled and have a high heat (110 degrees) and medium heat (100 degrees) setting. The great thing about these is once they reach the maximum heat temperature they will temporarily turn themselves off, allowing your feet not to overheat and start sweating, which can in turn make your feet colder. Once the temperature drops, they will turn themselves back on.These are rechargeable and have a battery life of up to 5 hours.

My husband bought these for me for Christmas last year and I'm really not sure why I am just now using them! They are definitely worth every penny he spent on them. He also bought some for himself and loves them. I have a size 6 in the heated insoles. I normally wear a 6 1/2 to 7 in normal shoes and this size fits perfectly. The insoles can also be trimmed in order to fit your boot better. Make sure you give these a try. They really work!!

Deaux Girl Scent Control Products

Ladies, if you're searching for great scent control products for hunting check out Deaux Girls! They make scent free/scent control body care products and cosmetics that are top of the line. The scent free shampoo and conditioner are salon quality and won't leave your hair dry or greasy.

The scent control lotion is one of my favorite Deaux Girl products, and if you don't order anything else from them, at least give this one a shot. It is the best scent control lotion that I have tried. It leaves your skin incredibly soft and does a great job of covering your scent. I noticed how well it blocked scent when I put it on after I had sprayed with perfume one day & noticed the perfume scent was completely gone!

Deaux Girl products are versatile and not just for the woods. They have a line of scent free cosmetics as well. Their lipstick, black pencil eyeliner and eye shadows have become my favorite over previous brands that I have used & wear them every day to work. Even Tiffany Lakosky uses their mascara!

Make sure you check out their website www.deauxgirl.com to check out all of their products and follow them on Facebook for updates: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Deaux-Girls/418719698215537

Bow Shooting Tips

With more & more people getting involved in archery & bow hunting, I feel I should share a few basic, but important, archery tips that help me when shooting my bow.

-The number one, most important thing to me is that you shoot the exact same way each time. Form & consistency is everything so make sure you are anchoring the same way each time. I have a kisser on my bow that really helps find my anchor point quicker each time.

-Loosen up your grip. Gripping the bow too tightly can cause you to torque the bow left or right & make your shooting off.

-Shooting at smaller dots on your targets help improve your accuracy & will help you shoot tighter groups. If you always shoot at the biggest dot on the target & can cause you to get a little sloppy. I like the Mckenzie Shot Blocker.

-For the women bow hunters: Here's a tip to see if you are pulling back too much weight with your bow: Get your bow & sit down in a chair. Pull your feet up so they aren't touching the ground & pull your bow back. If you can't get it back, or are struggling too much, you are pulling too much weight. I only shoot about 45 pounds, and that's really all you need.

Hunting Rub Lines

Some helpful hints when scouting for a good place to hang your stand:

When you find a rub line or a single rub, if you look at what side the bark is rubbed off of, that is usually the direction in which the buck was walking as he made the rub. This will give you a good idea of where the bucks are coming from, where they are going, and the time of day that the rubs were made. Rubs are often created as the buck travels from food sources to its bedding area in the morning, or on its way back to feed in the evening. Hanging your stand along their path and hunting from early season up to the rut can be a good way to take a decent buck off your property!

Primos Bombshell Turkey Call Review

In the past I was always a little hesitant to get into turkey hunting. There are so many different calls and I didn't feel confident that I would be able to call one in. I have used slate calls to successfully call in turkeys but I was so excited when I found the Bombshell by Primos. It is by far the easiest and best sounding call that I have used. It is a push/pull hen turkey call that yelps, cuts, and purrs just by pushing or tapping the rail. Push the rail to yelp, tap it to cut, and slowly press the rail to purr. The pitch can be adjusted easily to make it sound higher or raspier. Also, the rail can be locked into place so it doesn't make noise while walking. The call can be mounted to your shotgun for ease of use and to minimize movement. This call is perfect for beginner or experienced turkey hunters! I called this nice tom within 20 yards this spring using the Bombshell!

Huntress View

Welcome to Huntress View! I created this blog and Facebook page so women have somewhere to go to gain insight on hunting and shooting from a woman's point of view. This is a place for the experienced huntress or for the woman who is thinking about going hunting for the first time.

I feel that more women will get involved in hunting if they are able to get advice from real women hunters and know what hunting products huntresses are using, and loving! By giving honest feedback on hunting products and hunting tips, I hope to help introduce more women to the outdoors!

A little about me:

My name is Andrea Haas and I’m 27 years old.  I live in the Ozark Mountains near Gainesville, MO, just minutes away from Bull Shoals Lake and Norfork Lake.  I always wanted to go hunting as a little girl but it wasn't until I met my husband Jared in 2006 that I was introduced to hunting. When he offered to take me with him one fall, I jumped at the chance! We were in the stand no longer than thirty minutes when he called in a nice ten point within thirty yards and shot it. I was hooked immediately and it was then that I decided I wanted to try hunting for myself, without Jared.

I have been hunting for about 7 years now. Bow hunting is my main passion, but I enjoy it all from rifle hunting to bow fishing. Every deer or turkey that I have harvested I have done by myself, without someone in the stand to guide me. Jared has taught me a lot about hunting but you learn so much more when you get out there by yourself!

I have recently started taking my girlfriends, who have never hunted before, out turkey hunting and bow fishing with me. It is so rewarding to see them shoot a fish or turkey and know that you are the one that taught them how to do it!

I look forward to sharing my hunting stories and tips with you! Be sure to follow my Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/HuntressView?ref=hl
I have a lot of great things planned!
